If you’ve been following me for any amount of time or have ever been photographed by me, you’ll know about my little blue stool. This stool goes beyond just helping me reach what I need. This little blue stool has become a part of my identity. I know, that sounds dramatic. But it’s been a part of my life, and business, for years. You’ve probably noticed that I am what you would call…” height challenged”. You won’t be seeing me play in the WNBA anytime soon. But I’m okay with that! I have my handy-dandy, trusted little blue stool that has always been there for me. I’ve brought it to the studio, to weddings, friends’ houses, and the grocery store… it essentially lives in the trunk of my car and I always have it with me.

You might be thinking, “why do you need the stool as a photographer? Couldn’t you just move further away and zoom in to get the shot? Can’t you work some editing magic?” Some people might do this, but I don’t think it’s the best option. I want to get those angles and get a crystal clear shot without zooming or editing. With my stool, I have what I need to get the best shot possible without any assistance from editing, zooming, or magic.

Here’s a perfect example of when my stool came in REAL handy. I was hired to shoot a wedding. I normally don’t need a stool for a wedding, but because I always have it in my car, it was on hand. When I show up at the wedding, I discover that the entire wedding party is giant! Not as in there were many people. As in they were all amazingly tall! There was no way I would have been able to shoot them at the proper angle without my stool. Of course, everyone was laughing at me dragging my stool around the wedding and reception, but that stool saved the day and I got some awesome pictures.

And now on to a bit of sad news… after years of support, my beloved little blue stool has to be laid to rest. I tried everything possible to fix it. There was glue, tape, and talks of a transplant, but in the end, it cannot be saved. I tried to order a replacement, a sibling of sorts, but none of them are quite the same. They might be second cousins, at best. I’m still searching for the perfect replacement!

Join me in wishing my little blue stool a farewell. You’ve been a good friend, a supportive sidekick, and I’ll never forget you. I of course will carry on with my life and use my new replacement stools happily, but it’ll never be the same. You’ll always be my #1.
